PROGRAM DETAILS Mgahinga - Bwindi Itinerary Day 1: Mgahinga - Lake Mutanda ![]() At 9am we will begin at your Mgahinga lodge and hike down to Kisoro Town through volcanic rural areas, climb the Sagitwe caldera and walk past the first settlement of the church missionaries at Mabungo Hill. Our main stop will be the organic farm with bee hives and an orchard. In Kisoro Town we will have a great meal at Coffee Pot and then proceed to Lake Mutanda. ![]() The afternoon walk will take about two hours. Then a boat will deliver us to Mutanda Island Lodge, a very special camping destination (check out a Facebook album about this island). With loads of rabbits on the island, you won't be surprised by what will come to you on the plate. (Vegetarian options available too, of course.) Day 2: Lake Mutanda - Nkuringo ![]() We will make it to other side of the lake by canoe or motorboat (up to your preferences). The short but intense climb and the view from Chameleon Hill Lodge will take your breath away. (Three or more Virunga volcanoes can be seen above Lake Mutanda.) At around midday there will be a tasty meal served at the lodge. Afterwards we will start following village trails. Beautiful views of the lake, the Virunga Volcanoes and the rugged ridges of the western arm of the Western Rift Valley can be admired on a clear day. You will end your day with a night at Albertine Campsite, but despite the name you are likely to get a room there for a change! ![]() Day 3: Nkuringo - Buhoma Accompanied by a park ranger, your guide will take you down the steep slope to Kashasha River, already within the rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is a narrow trekking path with interesting bridges, a gorgeous river junction and natural obstacles that will entertain you for an hour or two. Afterwards the route is wide and flat. Plenty of birds are guaranteed, and other wildlife if you are lucky. You will be at Buhoma in 4 to 5 hours in total, excluding an optional stop at the triple waterfalls (highly recommended).
