Overview of Edirisa Canoe Trekking

Edirisa's canoe trekking is a combination of dugout canoeing and hiking around Lake Bunyonyi and between Kabale in Kisoro (southwestern Uganda), as far away from touristy areas as humanly possible. We have been organising such treks since 2005, providing travellers with a striking blend of culture and action.

The 5-hour Lake Bunyonyi trek (red route; from USD 35) leads you to the peaks of the Kyabahinga peninsula for breathtaking views and introduces you to a nursery school, a herbalist and a craftmaker.

The 1-day Lake Bunyonyi trek (yellow and red route; from USD 65) adds tasty meals and two pretty islands to the 5-hour program.

The 1-day Kabale-Bunyonyi trek (dark green route; from USD 45) offers a picturesque walk between the town and the lake, a visit to a herbalist and a craftmaker. It is a unique way to reach Lake Bunyonyi on foot but can be a round trip as well.

During the 2-day Lake Bunyonyi trek (blue route; from USD 105) you get to know all major islands, climb Karembe Hill, stay with a local family and meet Batwa "Pygmies".

The 3-day Lake Bunyonyi trek (blue route; from USD 135) adds an overnight at Habukomi Island and a relaxed morning with a craftmaker to the 2-day program.

The 3-day Kabale-Kisoro trek (light and dark green route; from USD 120) takes you across Bunyonyi to the volcanoes (or the other way around, if you are in Kisoro). It includes a herbalist, a craftmaker, a night on Habukomi Island and a Batwa "Pygmy"-guided crossing of Echuya Forest.

The 5-day Best of All trek (from USD 210) adds the Kabale-Kisoro walk to the 2-day Bunyonyi trek and can be started from Kabale, Bunyonyi or Kisoro.

Accommodation is tented and food is a mixture of traditional meals, fruits, picnic luxury and restaurant cuisine - more on this topic here.

With the exception of the 5-hour trip that skips meals, our prices include everything - transport (where applicable), accommodation, guides, all activities, food and drinks, free nights in the dorm at The Home of Edirisa (other accommodation options available) and a tour of Edirisa's cultural museum.

We depart daily from The Home of Edirisa and Bunyonyi Overland. Booking is essential (+256 75 2558 222; home@edirisa.org). A prior check of our list of available treks may help you get a better price.
