Overview of Edirisa's Canoe Trekking

NEW: We have started a canoe trek Facebook page. It includes a list of available treks.

Edirisa's canoe trekking is a combination of dugout canoeing and lakeside hiking around Lake Bunyonyi in the southwest of Uganda, as far away from touristy areas as humanly possible. We have been organising such treks since 2005, providing travellers with a striking blend of culture and action.

During our flagship 3-day canoe trek (USD 135) you get to know all major islands and the great Karembe Hill, stay with local families at Kyevu and on Habukomi Island, meet Batwa "Pygmies" and admire volcano and lake views.

The 2-day canoe trek (USD 105) follows the three-day itinerary but finishes right after the second day hike, before Habukomi.

The 1-day canoe trek (USD 65) leads you to the peaks of the Kyabahinga peninsula for breathtaking views and introduces you to a nursery school, a herbalist and a craftmaker. It includes checking on two pretty islands.

The 5-hour canoe trek (USD 35) excludes food and island visits - but you get all their stories while enjoying the views from the Kyabahinga ridge.

Tailor-made customised trips are available as well: feel free to inform us about your wishes, preferences and budget.

Accommodation is tented and food is a mixture of traditional meals, fruits, picnic luxury and restaurant cuisine - more on this topic here.

With the exception of the 5-hour trip, our prices include everything - transport, accommodation, guides, meals and drinks, two nights in the dorm at The Home of Edirisa (other accommodation options available) and a tour of Edirisa's cultural museum.

We depart daily from The Home of Edirisa and Bunyonyi Overland for Kyabahinga canoe treks. Longer treks start every Saturday morning from The Home of Edirisa in Kabale Town. Booking is essential (+256 75 2558 222; home@edirisa.org).
