What is Different

There are three other well-organised Batwa offers in the Gorilla Highlands of southwestern Uganda: Batwa Experience in Buhoma, Buniga Forest Walk in Nkuringo and Batwa Trail in Mgahinga. They resemble each other, they are all professionally done and historical in their nature. They show how Batwa used to live when they were still in the forest.

Edirisa wants to give you something different with Batwa Today - you will still experience Batwa forest knowledge but without costumes or much theatre. To that we add their present life and involve the Bakiga, the majority ethnic group. It just doesn’t feel right to simply walk past Bakiga into a Batwa settlement...

We will show you not only Batwa but also spectacular views of Lake Bunyonyi from all angles and the often neglected gem: Echuya Forest Reserve.

Because of our long-term relations with the Batwa, they consider Edirisa their friends and don’t mind photography or any other disturbance by anybody coming with us.

Your donation to the Batwa is included in the activity fee; nobody will harass you for anything else. If you still decide for an extra donation, it will be fully passed on to the Batwa.

50% of the money collected for the Batwa is given out on the spot, the other 50% is released by Edirisa twice a year. Getting a bigger chunk of the money at the same time helps Batwa utilise it better; whenever Kanusu is asked if that arrangement should continue, he prefers it this way.

We do not tell Batwa what to do with the money, nevertheless, their visitors have expressed a wish to see expenditure reports.

First report by the Batwa, presented in September 2014 for money received on 22 April 2014 (about USD 430): I, Kanusu John, bought three bags of potatoes at the cost of USh 30,000 each bag, ten empty sacks the a cost of USh 1,500 each. I also bought a book and a pen at the cost of USh 3,500 and the remaining balance of USh 640,000 was shared among 64 households. Total amount received was USh 1,080,000.

,I love the print but I was afraid of getting it dirty since I just toss my wallet in my bag and patent leather is pretty vulnerable to permanent stains. I ended up getting the leopard insolite and I love it! I'd say go for it if you love it! lv bags.
