Lake Bunyonyi - Buhoma Itinerary
Days 1-3: Lake Bunyonyi - Mgahinga
The first three days are devoted to a trip identical to 3-day Volcano Quest. That means meeting a traditional healer and a craftmaker, sleeping at Tom's Homestay, following Kanusu through Echuya Forest Reserve and camping on the gorgeous shores of Lake Kayumbu.
Day 4: Mgahinga
You can choose any activity available in the extraordinary Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or perhaps take some rest.
Days 5-7: Mgahinga - Buhoma
This part of the hike follows the program of Parks Reunited. We hike from Mgahinga to Kisoro Town with a stop at an organic farmer, then camp at Mutanda Island Lodge (Facebook album about it).
Next day we take a motorboat or dugout canoe across Lake Mutanda, get a nice lunch at Chameleon Hill Lodge and walk to Nkuringo for a night at Albertine Campsite. Despite the name you are likely to get a room there...
The last day is about crossing the rugged rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Luckily we were coming from the easy direction; the park boundary is 600m/2000ft below the road. You will hike along Kashasha River towards a beautiful river junction where a quick swim can refresh you. Plenty of birds are guaranteed, and other wildlife if you are lucky. An optional stop at the triple waterfalls is highly recommended.
